Artist's
Biography
Donald Yacoe had a long career as an exhibiting artist, professor of
art and muralist. During World War II, he served as a staff artist for
the U.S. 8th Army in the Pacific. During that time, his Philippine watercolors
appeared in Life Magazine and New York’s Babcock Gallery. He held
one man shows in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Honolulu and exhibited
in museums in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Yacoe was a Professor Emeritus
from Long Island University, CW. Post Center, School of the Arts and
a former exchange professor at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Mr.
Yacoe had lived in Hawaii since 1985, where he lived and worked in a
house and studio on Paiko Lagoon in East Honolulu. He and his wife Caroline
had traveled extensively in the Pacific, collecting art and taking videos
for documentaries on tribal art, life and ceremonies. His family will
present the exhibit in his honor.
